On January 30th the Vancouver Canucks started what was to be the longest road trip in NHL history. During this time they traveled a total of 20,737 kilometers. The first game of the colossal fourteen game expedition began with a win against the Leafs, it ended on March 10th with an overtime loss to Phoenix. In a span of fourteen games the team finished with a respectable 8-5-1 record, the final outcome of this journey could have ended much worse, especially when you consider that Vancouver have been playing without two of it’s best defensemen.

Habs Laughs

Hey TCL,

The name is Mike O, a few months ago I started a Habs Blog that dealt with the lighter side of being a Habs fan. Rather than pour over every detail from every game I decided to take a lighter approach and take the funny route.

I was approached by TCL to post my blogs here in hopes if giving the Habs and Hockey fans who are regulars a taste of some Habs Laughs.

It's certain that a lot of eyes collectively rolled earlier this afternoon when Colin Campbell announced that there would be no suspension for Matt Cooke, who sent Marc Savard to the hospital with a vicious hit to the head in this past weekend's game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Savard's Boston Bruins.

It has been over a month since the Vancouver Canucks have played in the comfort of their home at General Motors Place, 42 days to be exact. The Canucks have just one more game remaining on their NHL record 14-game road trip that has seen them travel all across North America.

The biggest change in this team over the last six years has been age. Six years ago, the Leafs were well on their way to what fans thought might be a successful post-season. By the end of the 2003-2004 season, the Leafs were deploying the likes of Mats Sundin, Gary Roberts, Alex Mogilny, Joe Nieuwendyk, Ron Francis, Brian Leetch, Owen Nolan and Ed Belfour. Six years later, times have changed.

If the Islanders were looking to make a statement, tonight was the night. If the Isles were looking to prove that they were due for a win on the road as they have lost their last seven road games in a row, tonight was the night. If the Isles really wanted to end a 14-game losing streak against the Philadelphia Flyers, tonight was the night. If the Isles wanted to win in an arena other than Madison Square Garden that belonged to their Atlantic Division rivals, tonight was the night.

I guess they didn't want any of these things as much as say, I wanted them too.

It's been nearly a year since Jerry Moyes sent the Phoenix Coyotes to bankruptcy court in order to sell them to Jim Balsillie.

Whether or not you thought the Philadelphia Flyers needed to make a trade for a goaltender, they didn’t – because they couldn’t without moving a big piece.

Long-term contracts, lack of draft picks and prospects tied General Manager, Paul Holmgren’s hands on March 3rd. If a move could have been made, I think it would have. But was the right decision made, not to?

It was the first deadline since 1993 that the Flyers didn’t make a move.

Going into last night's game against the Anaheim Ducks, there's no way Habs fans couldn't be happy with the previous three games their team had faced on the road.

A win against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday included 4 unanswered third period goals and a good team game to bring the Canadiens to a 4-1 victory against their most immediate Eastern Conference rival. This was the proverbial ''must win'' for the Canadiens, and everyone delivered.

Maybe they were listening when everyone in the hockey world was laying into them for the horrible moves they made at the trade deadline and the atrocious game they followed with that night. The Calgary Flames (32-24-9) were a team that could not score. They have suddenly turned on the afterburners with ten goals in 2 games.

Leading the way is Jarome Iginla who recorded his tenth career hat trick in today’s game and added as assist. Rene Bourque is so far earning that giant contract extension recording 5 points in the last two games. Matt Stajan has 3 points in the last two as well.
