What happens when your two Conn Smyth trophy leading candidates – players who have carried your team on their backs in the first two rounds of the NHL Playoffs - don’t come to play?

You get embarrassed by a complete, real, team.

Just like that, the Philadelphia Flyers have gained the all important home ice advantage.

Brian Boucher made 23 saves, Mike Richards added a goal and an assist and the Flyers used a total team effort to upset the number two-seeded New Jersey Devils in Game One of their Eastern Conference match-up Wednesday night in Newark.

Today we're joined by Jon 'JP' Phillips. JP has been a Flyers' fan since the days of Pelle Lindbergh, who was his idol playing goalie as a kid. Although he grew up in Minnesota, he has avidly followed the team since the early 90's and now authors the FlyingP blog.

DL – What are your thoughts on the Flyers standing pat on Trade Deadline?

Long-term contracts, lack of draft picks and prospects tied General Manager, Paul Holmgren’s hands on March 3rd. If a move could have been made, I think it would have. But was the right decision made, not to?

It was the first deadline since 1993 that the Flyers didn’t make a move.

DL – Do you think the Olympic break will help or hurt a team like the Flyers?

ZD - If you would have asked me this a few months ago I would have said it would of help out a whole hell of a lot.

For all of its perceived prowess Finland has never quite achieved at the Olympic level.
