Whether or not you thought the Philadelphia Flyers needed to make a trade for a goaltender, they didn’t – because they couldn’t without moving a big piece.

Long-term contracts, lack of draft picks and prospects tied General Manager, Paul Holmgren’s hands on March 3rd. If a move could have been made, I think it would have. But was the right decision made, not to?

It was the first deadline since 1993 that the Flyers didn’t make a move.

Mike and I are huge hockey fans, but more so, we’re sports fans in general. For this article, we’re going to discuss the influence of Olympic hockey and the impact it has with sports fans across America, and tackle the 2014 Sochi issue.

Patriotism can be a powerful thing.

DL – Do you think the Olympic break will help or hurt a team like the Flyers?

ZD - If you would have asked me this a few months ago I would have said it would of help out a whole hell of a lot.

Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren has informed the Philadelphia media that goaltender Ray Emery has been ‘shut down’ for the next three weeks.

Emery has been out of action since his 3-0 shutout victory in Calgary.

The UFA to-be has had injury problems are season long and will try to attempt to play following the Olympic break. After recently taking an MRI on the hip, the news comes delayed after the Dr.’s and team management couldn’t come on a decision – surgery or rest.

The Philadelphia Flyers have traded Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and a fifth-round pick in 2011 to the Detroit Red Wings for leftwing Ville Leino.

Leino, 27, was a free-agent signing by the Wings following the 2008 season. His first season playing professional hockey in the AHL, Leino recorded 46 points in 57 games for the Grand Rapids.

Following the completion of his season, Leino was called-up by Detroit and succeeded instantly.

Riffe has been a passionate Flyers fan since he was born. He grew up on the Broad Street Bullies style of play, he was able to watch the prime of the Legion of Doom, the disaster of the 2000 Eastern Conference Finals, and the bitter disappointment of the 2004 Flyers. Currently a start-up blogger at Hendrickshockey.com, Matt hopes to see a Stanley Cup very soon.
