The Montreal Canadiens lost sniper Michael Cammalleri Saturday afternoon when he went hard into the boards after colliding with defenseman Anton Volchenkov, his leg buckling under him.

The injury did not look good at all, and Cammy was unable to put any weight on his right leg. At first glance, it looks like he both injured his right ankle and right knee and it could lead to lengthy absence. Update: the injury is to his right knee.

Once upon a time Georges Laraque was one of the most feared enforcers in the NHL. He was even unanimously awarded the 'Best Fighter' award from The Hockey News in 2003. In 2008, Sports Illustrated named him the number one enforcer in the league.

When Andrei Markov went down with a lacerated tendon during the Montreal Canadiens’ first game of the season in Toronto, many observers believed his absence and the lack of defensive depth on the blue line would erase any playoffs hope for the 2009-10 season.

Drafted 22nd overall in the first round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens (a pick they had acquired along with Josh Gorges in exchange for veteran defenseman, and Saku Koivu's best friend, Craig Rivet), Max Pacioretty is finally making an impact offensively for the injury-riddled Habs.

Monday afternoon the Montreal Canadiens traded disgruntled forward Guillaume Latendresse to the Minnesota Wild for another forward, Ottawa-native Benoit Pouliot. Pouliot, once a highly-touted prospect who was drafted 4th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft (one rank before Carey Price), never blossomed under Jacques Lemaire in Minnesota.

Christopher Higgins

The American forward is having a hard time in the Big Apple. In fact, Higgins only has five points this year, and only deux goals. Defensively, Higgins' strength, is having difficulties adjusting to John Tortorella's style of play posting a plus/minus differential of -5. Tortorella is mainly using him on the third line as a forechecker. His might run out of patience towards Higgins if the latter doesn't adjust quickly and start producing on a Rangers' team lacing depth offensively after Gaborik, Prospal and Kotalik.
