Stajan Signs 4-year extension

In the second major move of the day, TSN has announced that Matt Stajan, recently acquired in the Dion Phaneuf deal from Toronto, will be staying in Calgary.

Stajan signed a 4 year extension, which raises his salary to about $3.5 million from the $1.75 million he was making on his previous deal. Stajan would have been an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.

The 26 year old, 6'1'' 200lbs center has 18 goals and 27 assists with a -1 rating this season. 2 of those goals and 2 of those assists have come while in a Flames uniform over the last seven games. At this pace, Stajan is on his way to a carreer year in the NHL.

With Rene Bourque signed to a 6-year contract extension last week, this leaves the Flames with six UFA forwards and one UFA defenseman come July 1st.

there was no way he was going to get that money in Toronto. Good for him though.
I think it's a reasonable price for a second line center.
