Flyers Prospect Laughton Named Captain of Canada's World Junior Championship Team

Flyers prospect and 2012 first round pick Scott Laughton has been named the captain of Canada's World Junior Championship team Thursday.

Laughton, 19, has been absolutely lighting up the Ontario Hockey League. He has 24 goals and 50 points in just 29 games for the Oshawa Generals.

Laughton represented Canada in the U-17 and U-18 division as well.

Laughton was taken 20th overall in the 2012 amateur draft. He played in five games during last season's lockout shortened season before being sent back to Oshawa.

Laughton is a two-way center, emulating the play of former Flyers captain Mike Richards.

Defenseman Matt Dumba (2012, seventh overall) of the Minnesota Wild and Tampa Bay Lightning forward prospect Jonathan Drouin (2013, third overall) of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Halifax Mooseheads are Canada’s alternate captains.
