It’s no secret that Tyler Myers had a terrific rookie season last year with the Buffalo Sabres. He recorded 11 goals and 37 assists and played in all 82 games. To complete the phenomenal season, he was awarded with the Calder Trophy as Rookie of the Year.

The 20 year old towering defenseman played just as big as his height as he lead the team in ice time per game. Myers is considered significantly ahead of his game and has been compared to guys like Chris Pronger and Zdeno Chara but far better for his age then they were.

Many NHL players have struggled coming off of their rookie season.

Northeast Division Up For Grabs

Predictions for the upcoming NHL season are already being posted around the web, and many teams are not done making moves. At this point, are the Sabres good enough to win the division again?

Mike Corcoran, a Tampa Bay radio host, posted his Eastern Conference predictions with Buffalo finishing in fifth place. Corcoran stated this about the Sabres:

"Some will make the claim that a winning team starts from the net out, and the Buffalo Sabres have one of the best in the Eastern Conference in Ryan Miller. He can and will single handily steal games.

Buffalo Sabres Contest

Regier: Nowhere Near Done

Darcy Regier has made a few moves this offseason, but he is far from done. Buffalo still has about eight million left to spent before it reaches the maximum salary cup.

Everything has slowed down around the NHL recently, due to the Ilya Kovalchuk sweepstakes. Once that is over, expect Regier and the Sabres to make a few more moves.

Buffalo has already seen the addition of Jordan Leopold and Rob Niedermayer, two solid signings that should help the team. The Sabres also re-signed Patrick Lalime for another year.

Regier Has Fans Fired Up

Many Sabres fans, including myself, became furious over the fact the Regier hadn't made any moves on July 1st. With every signing, it seemed like the Sabres chances of improving became slimmer.

Before free agency even began, the only thing Regier did was re-sign Mike Grier, which is a solid move. That still left six unrestricted free agents on the team, leaving around $14 million of space left to sign players.

Martin Biron was one of the first moves on Thursday, signing with the New York Rangers for under $900,000 for two years. Are you kidding me?!

More False Hope In Buffalo

It’s been a few years since General manager Darcy Regier has made a significant move to improve the Sabres. The offseason has just started, and I am already tired of waiting for Regier to do something. It’s just not going to happen.

There were plenty of positive thoughts and opportunities, but none of them have or will come through. Tomas Kaberle has been the biggest rumor in Buffalo, but apparently the deal fell through.

Why Toronto May Become a Threat To Buffalo

In three years from now, the Buffalo Sabres will be a completely different team, but that could be said about any team. The Sabres have a big couple of years ahead of them that will prove whether or not they will be a contender come playoff time.

The management will likely change soon, which may not be a bad thing. Lindy Ruff had and will face criticism regardless of what happens.

Big Chances Ahead For Buffalo

With numerous talented free agents hitting the market this Summer, expect the Buffalo Sabres to be involved. While they may not have done much in the past, this year should be different.

Buffalo will see many changes over the next few years, and this upcoming season is just a start. Lindy Ruff and Darcy Regier are likely on their way out in the next season or two. Not only that, but Rick Jeanneret isn't going to announce the games much longer.

There are a number of players currently on the Sabres team who do not need to be there.

Buffalo Has Plenty of Decisions

There’s always next year. The infamous phrase heard around Buffalo has been said again this year after the Sabres were knocked out in the first round to end the season.

Fans in Buffalo were disappointed again after what looked like a promising season. The Sabres made the playoffs for the first time since winning the President’s Trophy in 2007, but were then bounced out by the Bruins in round one.

A well-played season with impressive performances from Tyler Myers and Ryan Miller gave the city of Buffalo plenty of reason to believe that the team would succeed in the postseason.

Good Idea to Keep Ruff and Regier?

Many fans were already hoping that Darcy Regier and Lindy Ruff would not return next season due to the first round loss against the Bruins.

As almost every Sabres fan knows, Ruff is the longest tenured coach in the NHL, beginning his coaching career with Buffalo back in 1997. I don’t understand why so many people want him out of the Sabres’ front office.

The Sabres have made the playoffs seven out of 12 seasons with Ruff behind the bench. They have made it to the Finals once, which ended on a controversial call.
