On Friday night, Finland continued its quest to steal away the number one seed in Group C from the 2006 Olympic Gold Medal winning Swedes. It would come in a matchup against the defensive team Germany, lead by Marco Sturm and Jochen Hecht.

It was Finland’s powerplay that buried the Germans in this outing, scoring four times on six powerplay opportunities. Niklas Hagman tied the tournament lead in points (4) with a pair of assists.

The Czech Republic came out flying and looking for the early lead. They got three of them as David Krejci, Tomas Plekanec, and Jarmir Jagr each buried a goal in the first five minutes of the game. Marek Zidlicky had what could be his best game of the tournament with three assists. The Czechs got comfortable and started to slow, and that is when Latvia took advantage of the opportunity.

In a night of Olympic shootouts, the Russia vs. Slovakia battle did not disappoint. Down by one after the second period, Slovakia rallied back to force the overtime frame tied at 1 apiece. After sudden death solved nothing, a shootout was required to cap off the exciting matchup.

The NHL released their attendance average numbers this season, and the numbers are a bit confusing. Not only have some teams not seen a large improvement, but as many as 11 teams are down 500 or more fans, with the Coyotes - a team looking to stay in Phoenix - showing their true fans appreciation as they are down an outstanding 3870 fans per game this season, despite being in a playoff position.

Two Leafs players have food poisoning, so Nazem Kadri is an emergency call up for tonight’s game. No word as of what line he will be playing on just yet, but one thing is for sure this will be an interesting sneak peak at what Kadri and Kessel could bring to the club next season.

This is also a matchup with Ron Wilson’s former club. The Sharks have been strong as of late, going 8-1-1 in their last ten.

UPDATE 7:30: Looks like it's Jersey.

FROM PRAX: Just like last night, talks are heating up again. Darren Dreger is reporting that he could be moved tonight to an eastern team. It could be down to Montreal, Philadelphia, New Jersey and maybe Washington. The western teams look to be out. Stay tuned to TCL for all the breaking details, looks to be another long night!

The Atlanta Thrashers GM, Don Waddell, has told TSN that Ilya Kovalchuk turned down a $101M dollar contract from the organization. "Our goal from the start of this negotiating process was to sign Ilya Kovalchuk to a long-term contract," said Waddell in the statement. "During the process, Kovy affirmed his desire to be a Thrasher for life.  We've spent several months exploring scenarios with Kovy and his agent to reach a mutually beneficial agreement, and offered many lucrative packages in an attempt to meet his financial objectives. Unfortunately, we've reached an impasse and at this point he has declined all of our proposals and we can't reasonably go any higher.

The New York Rangers are believed to be officially out of the Kovalchuk sweepstakes, or at least until the asking price on the rental drops. According to NY Post reporter Larry Brooks, posting via his Twitter account, the Thrashers are looking for a combination of packages that include: defenseman Marc Staal; defenseman Michael Del Zotto and forward Ryan Callahan; or Brandon Dubinsky and a first-round pick.
