Canadiens Trade D'Agostini to Blues

According to TSN, the Montreal Canadiens have traded forward Matt D'Agostini to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Aaron Palushaj.

Palushaj, a former 2nd round pick in '07, has 5 goals and 22 points with Peoria in the AHL this season. The Michigan native played his junior hockey in the NCAA with the University of Michigan.

D'agostini, a former 6th round pick in '05 has actually been up with the big club this season and the better part of last season. However, after showing some goal scoring ability last season, D'Agostini has a disappointing 2 goals and 4 points so far this season.

Personally, I like this trade for the Habs. It's obviously not a big trade and doesn't really change either team's game plan, but obviously things weren't working out for D'Agostini in Montreal and maybe a fresh start in St. Louis will benefit him. Cracking an NHL lineup after being selected in the 6th round is already quite impressive for D'Agostini.

I'm sure George Prax will have more to say on this trade.

I have nothing against this move. D'Agostini had rendered himself useless, a nuisance who would have been lost to waivers. I'm glad we got something for him and the guy we got is apparently good friends and former roommates with Pacioretty and a big time player at the NCAA level, so he might be interesting.

More to come on the trade later.

Strickland on Palushaj:

''I think some fans are slightly shocked that the St. Louis Blues have so quickly moved on from a player who was so highly regarded just a few short months ago.

When you think about Aaron Palushaj, a former 2nd round pick out of Michigan, you think about a player the organization had categorized as a big part of the future moving forward. ''
