Is KFC and NY Barstool Sports behind the Islanders success this last month?

Ever since March began the Islanders have really stepped up their game as a whole and because of that they have catapulted into seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 37 points, tied with the New Jersey Devils.

What is the reason for their sense of urgency as of lately, is it the consistent play of Evgeni Nabokov, is it the all of a sudden secondary scoring the team has received from Frans Nielsen, Josh Bailey, Michael Grabner or Colin McDonald?

It is definitely a combination of all those things, added with the scoring from the first line of John Tavares, Matt Moulson and Brad Boyes that the Islanders have received all season long.

During the last month the Islanders have received the same amount of media coverage that they have all season, none.

Except from the very popular blog Barstool Sports, specifically from NY Barstool Sports blogger KFC.

On March 9, when the Islanders took on the Washington Capitals KFC, who does this competition called Fan Duel on Barstool; choose only John Tavares to fill out his roster.

That night the Islanders went out and beat up on the Capitals 5-2, Tavares went out a netted two power play goals in the win.

After the game KFC claimed himself as the Islanders lucky charm.

Then after the Islanders defeated the Tampa Bay Lighting on March 14, 2-0, KFC tweeted that the Islanders were the best team in New York.

On March 27, Islanders forward Colin McDonald tweeted at KFC when would KFC come down to an Islanders game, in which KFC responded, “Careful dude. You’re flirting with KFC jinx disaster. You really want me there?”

The next night after the Islanders defeated the division rival Flyers 4-3 in a shootout, KFC proclaimed that the KFC jinx doesn’t affect hockey, calling it the ‘KFC Hockey Non-Jinx.'

The day after the Flyers win, March 29, McDonald tweeted at KFC saying “Whatever you’re doing bro don’t change a thing,” and KFC responded, “At this point I might deserve a pay check.”

After the Islanders beat the Devils on April 1 easily, McDonald asked KFC if he was fully on the Isles bandwagon, and he replied, “After watching Matt Martin kill a man, I am driving this bandwagon.”

After yesterday’s game against Winnipeg, where the Isles won 5-2, KFC tweeted out “ALL ABOARD THE #Isles BANDWAGON! I’m driving us to the Promised Land!”

He then tweeted out that he hasn’t had this much success as a fan, in one stretch since he started rooting for the Islanders.

Then lastly he tweeted out that the Rangers are in the rearview and there is no looking back, tagging McDonald, Tavares, Moulson and Martin in the tweet.

Now I am in no way a superstitious fan by any means. I think people who don’t wash their jerseys till their favorite loses are gross and childish.

But you cannot look past the success the Islanders have had since KFC has come onboard and started driving the Islanders bandwagon.

When KFC tweeted on March 9, the Islanders were sitting out of the playoff hunt, in 10th place with 23 points. Now they are in 7th place, fully in the playoff hunt with 37 points with 11 games left in the season.

McDonald's game has also stepped up the last month doubling his goal total on the season, including a two goal performance against the Flyers.,

Even though I am and have been an Islanders fan since I was a kid and will always be an Islanders fan, I am not jumping on board the bandwagon because I have been here for years.

In saying that, make room up front KFC because I am riding shotgun with you to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
