Where Do The Islanders Fit In The Metro Division?

The New York Islanders appear to be more or less set for the start of training camp, and their roster will almost look identical to last year’s Islanders squad that began the 2014-2015 season. With some of their division rivals having made some big changes this off-season, it’s hard to predict where the Islanders will finish in the Metropolitan Division this upcoming year.

The Isles signed Thomas Greiss to a two-year contract to back up Jaroslav Halak. Aside from signing prospect Kirill Petrov to a one-year deal (hey, remember him?), the Islanders were quiet on the free agent front.

Flyers Come Up Short to Devils

The Flyers, and seemingly everyone else in the Wells Fargo Center, thought they had just completed yet another third period comeback.

With 40.1 seconds left and goaltender Steve Mason sitting on the bench for an extra attacker, it appeared that the Flyers had tied the game at two; however, the goal was immediately waived off by the referee who explained that the goal was disallowed due to contact made by Scott Hartnell with Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur.

After a review, the call stood and amid a chorus of boos, the final 40 seconds ticked off the clock and ended a disappointing game for the Flyers in which they dropped 2-1 to the Devils on Tuesday.

Postgame 3/1/14: Devils defeat Islanders 6-1 at Coliseum

The first day of the new month was one the Islanders would like to forget having been defeated 5-1 by the New Jersey Devils at home this afternoon. The game was overall a poor performance and one like this that hasn’t been seen from the Islanders in almost two months.

What are the Chicago Blackhawks’ Trade Targets?

The upcoming Olympic break will give every team in the NHL a chance to pause, reflect, and evaluate what they need to do to improve in the future. More importantly, it will allow them to look at potential trade targets to finish off their season. More than most, the defending Stanley Cup champions cannot relax and rest on their laurels; they have a brutal Western Conference to survive before they can even start thinking about a return to the post-season and a chance to defend their title. Fans betting on NHL know the team have not been performing lately and look as though they need fresh blood and some fine-tuning, although it would make no sense for them to make wholes...

Bryzgalov Backs Up Comments; Rock Solid During PK, Shoot-Out

The Flyers had five minutes of overtime to work with in hopes to not allow the game to carry to a shoot-out.

What many consider to be a glorified skills competition, the Flyers have considered their lack of success in the final determination of the second point to be a nightmare. It's been especially hard on Ilya Bryzgalov, who was going to be the netminder of choice in the Flyers dance with chance.

Tavares Hat Trick Leads Isles 5-1 Triumph Over New Jersey

The Islanders hosted fellow Atlantic Divison rivals, the New Jersey Devils, on Saturday night at the Nassau Coliseum. The Isles evened up the season series at two-a-piece in another explosive game by John Tavares and the lethal power play unit.

Tavares led the way through this one, scoring his 4th career hat trick and adding an assist to the 5-1 win over New Jersey. Matt Moulson assisted on all three of Tavares’ goals, in addition to scoring one of his own, giving both of them 4-point games. (Photo Credit: T.J. Weber/The Checking Line)
