Do the Bruins have a deal in place?

Earlier today (Feb. 25), Boston GM Peter Chiarelli hinted that the Bruins may have a deal or two in place for when the NHL roster freeze is lifted on March 1.

Speaking on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Felger and Mazz afternoon show, Chiarelli said that things have picked up the last couple of days and that some deals around the league need just formal announcement to be completed.

"Tuesday things started to pick up and I suspect you'll see some deals that have already been cooked," Chiarelli said. "You'll see them done like the morning of the first. We're in on a couple and I like our chances.

"I always want improve this team," he continued. "We have identified a couple areas where we feel we can improve it right now and if the right deal is there, and I think we are in on a couple that are close, that we will do them."

When asked if the Bruins had a deal in place, Chiarelli said with a laugh, "I'll abstain."

Speculation has been rampant over the last week that the Bruins are targeting Nashville defenseman Dan Hamhuis, who carries a $2mil cap hit and is an unrestricted free agent after this season. The Bruins have also been linked to Columbus forwards Raffi Torres and Kristian Huselius in various reports.

Hamhuis and Torres would be pretty good fits with the Bruins. Gotta wonder what they're willing to give up though. Would they need to clear cap space?
As of Feb. 4 the Bruins had a maximum deadline cap absorption of a shade over $4mil (that is, they can take on a combined $4mil cap hit without moving anything). Hamhuis and Torres combine to 4.250, but obviously something off the roster (Ference, Hunwick, Sobotka) would go the other way, so the cap really isn't an issue, especially if they only get one.

For the record, if Chiarelli pulls of something like Hamhuis for Andrew Ference, Zach Hamill and a conditional pick I'll need to see a doctor for an erection lasting four hours
Just a tad bit more information than what I asked for, but thanks anyway Tongue
